Sand Dollars, Secrets, and Starting Over by Bailey Thomas

Welcome to Serene reads & Dramatic escapes by Moushmi

Hey everyone! Today, I am diving into the book Sand Dollars, Secrets, and Starting Over by Bailey Thomas here on my blog, Serene Reads & Dramatic Escapes by Moushmi. This book swept me away to the sandy shores of Florida, where seashells and ocean breezes carry stories of love, healing, and second choices.

First of all, a big thank you to the author for trusting me with an ARC of this book. It made the reading experience even more special, knowing I got to read it before its release. This is not just a romance. It is about starting over, finding courage to open up again, and discovering beauty when you least expect it.

What's the Story?

Here's how it begins. Ramona Fritz has had enough. After her ex breaks her trust and even steals her money, she decides it is time to pack her bags and leave everything behind. Where does she go? A dart thrown at a map leads her to Destiny, Florida, a quiet little beach town that feels like it might hold the peace she is looking for.

Then there is Brock Pierson. He has been through his own share of heartbreak and carries the kind of scars that make him believe love is not for him. His only focus is to rebuild what he has lost and keep his heart guarded.

But fate has other ideas. When Ramona and Brock meet, there is an instant connection, though neither of them is ready to admit it. What follows is a story that unfolds slowly and gently, like the tide rolling in. Trust takes time. Walls come down. Secrets are faced. And love begins to take root.

It feels like the kind of romance that walks beside you quietly, reminding you that sometimes love arrives when you have stopped looking.

Coastal Vibes and Second Chances:

One of the things I loved most about this story is the way the setting itself feels alive. From the seashells scattered along the shore to the soft ocean breeze, Destiny feels like more than just a backdrop. It becomes a safe place where healing feels possible.

This is not the kind of love story that rushes. It is tender and soothing, the kind of book that feels like sitting by the beach with waves in the background and hope slowly making its way back into your heart.

Characters:

Ramona Fritz: Strong yet vulnerable, willing to rebuild her life despite the pain of betrayal.

Brock Pierson: Quiet and guarded, but with a gentle heart that slowly learns how to open up again.

Destiny, Florida: Not just a setting but almost a character on its own—warm and welcoming, a place where fresh starts feel possible.

What Stood Out For Me:

I loved how the romance was not rushed. It grew in soft, patient steps, giving space for trust to bloom. The balance of heartbreak and hope stayed with me. This book does not pretend that love erases scars. Instead, it shows how love can make the weight of them easier to carry. And of course, the small-town coastal charm was a joy to read about. It made me want to walk along those beaches myself.

A Few Quibbles:

If you enjoy fast-paced or dramatic love stories, this one might feel a little too gentle. But I honestly think that slow and steady rhythm is what makes the book so comforting.

Final Thoughts and Who Should Read This:

If you are looking for a romance that feels like a peaceful walk by the ocean, this is the book for you. It is soothing, heartfelt, and filled with second chances.

You will love this story if you enjoy:
Small town beach settings
Slow-burn romances
Characters who learn to trust again
Guaranteed happy endings

It is a book that feels like healing in the form of a love story.

Have you read any books from the series? Or do you enjoy being set in coastal towns? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

Thank you again to Bailey Thomas for sharing this ARC with me. It was such a gentle, heartfelt read, and I can't wait for more readers to discover it.

Youn's Kitchen season 2: Food, Friendship, and Cozy Moments

Welcome to Serene Reads & Dramatic Escapes by Moushmi. 💛

Hey there! You know how I usually share books and travel stories here on my blog? Well, last year I discovered a show that instantly felt like a warm hug, Youn's Kitchen Season 2. I remember curling up with a bowl of noodles and getting completely absorbed in it. Watching them cook, laugh, and adapt to a foreign country made me feel like I was right there in the kitchen with them, tasting every dish and enjoying the cozy vibes.

What's the Show About?

When I first started watching this show, I didn't expect to get so hooked. In Season 2, a small team of Korean celebrities—Youn Yeo-jung, Lee Seo-jin, Jung Yoo-mi, and Park Seo-joon, run a Korean restaurant in Garachico, a picturesque town in Tenerife, Spain. I loved seeing how they faced challenges like unfamiliar ingredients, language barriers, and a fast-paced kitchen while still keeping everything authentic and heartfelt. Korean meals often focus on balance and sharing, which made watching them serve locals so heartwarming. It's not just about food; it's about teamwork, friendship, and the joy of sharing Korean cuisine with locals and tourists.

The Food That Stole the Show:

Watching them cook was almost like watching art in motion. Some of my favorite dishes included

Vegetable Bibimbap: a colorful mix of rice, sauteed vegetables, and a fried egg, served with gochujang. Healthy, vibrant, and full of flavor.

Kimchi Jeon (Kimchi Pancakes): Crispy on the outside, soft inside, tangy from kimchi, and perfect for sharing. The pancakes were golden and crispy, with a tangy aroma that filled the air.

Japchae (Stir-fried Glass Noodles): Sweet potato noodles stir-fried with vegetables like carrots, spinach, and mushrooms. Chewy and savory, easy to enjoy without meat.

Kimchi fried rice: Fried rice mixed with kimchi and vegetables, comforting and quick to eat while running a restaurant.

Hotteok (Sweet Pancakes): gooey pancakes filled with brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutsserved warm, sometimes with ice cream for dessert.

Korean Fried Chicken (Dakgangjeong): Depending on the episode, sometimes served with chicken wings or boneless pieces. Sweet, crispy, and spicy.

Seafood or Vegetable Variants: Occasionally, they made dishes using shrimp, squid, or mushrooms.

Behind the Scenes: From Chaos to Comfort

I remember thinking how chaotic the kitchen looked at first, with ingredients everywhere, orders piling up, and the language barrier adding extra pressure. But over time, the team found a rhythm. Opening the restaurant, prepping, serving, and cleaning became almost like a dance. Their laughter and teamwork made the kitchen feel alive and full of warmth, and I loved seeing how proud they were of every little success.

Standout Moments:

A couple of moments really stuck with me:

When the hotel chef and staff from the other restaurant visited their restaurant, they were so impressed by the food that they joked about keeping the team on staff! The moment had me laughing out loud—it really showed how food connects people across cultures.

Youn Yeo-jung teaching a couple to mix their bibimbap properly, seeing their confusion turn into delight, was priceless.

Watching locals try kimchi pancakes or Korean fried chicken for the first time, their surprised and happy reactions made me feel warm inside.

Garachico: More Than Just a Setting

Garachico itself stole my heart. Its cobblestone streets, ocean breeze, and friendly locals made every scene feel magical. I remember them taking breaks to try some local Spanish dishes—fresh seafood, pastries, and tapas, which made their adventure feel even more real. I could almost smell the ocean mingling with sizzling ingredients in their kitchen, which made me wish I were right there with them.

On occasion, the team dined at local establishments, such as

Pizzería Rugantino: Known for its authentic Italian-style pizzas and rustic ambiance.

Restaurante Silogía: Praised for its impeccable service and exquisite food, offering a refined dining experience.

Gofio: A traditional Canarian flour made from roasted grains, often used in various dishes.

Papas Arrugadas: Small, wrinkled potatoes boiled in salt water, typically served with green or red mojo sauce.

Bienmesabe: a sweet dessert made from ground almonds, sugar, lemon and sometimes egg yolk.

Final Thoughts:

Thinking back to Youn's Kitchen Season 2, it not just a cooking show I watched—it's one of those little treasures that makes you smile without even realizing it. Between the stunning views of Garachico, the delicious dishes, and the team's humor and warmth, it felt like I was part of their little kitchen family. I loved seeing the team figure things out in a completely new place, juggling the kitchen chaos while still making everything feel cozy. If you're a foodie, travel lover, or someone who enjoys heartwarming shows, it's an absolute must-watch.

What really got me was how they used local Garachico ingredientsfresh vegetables, seafood, and even farm-fresh eggs, to make Korean dishes. It reminded me that food isn't just about recipes; it's about adapting, experimenting, and connecting with people wherever you are.

Your Turn: Have you watched Youn's Kitchen? Which dish would you try first? I'd love to hear your favorites!

Crazy Rich Asians – A Glamorous Tale of Love, Family, and Food.

Welcome back to Serene Reads & Dramatic Escapes by Moushmi.💛

Hey everyone! Today, we’re diving into a film that’s equal parts romance, sparkle, and heart, Crazy Rich Asians, the blockbuster adaptation of Kevin Kwan’s bestselling novel.

If you love glittering backdrops, complicated family dynamics, swoony romance, and (of course) a touch of foodie magic, this one’s for you.

Summary of the Story:

The story follows Rachel Chu, a Chinese-American professor in New York, who agrees to travel with her boyfriend, Nick Young, to Singapore for a friend’s wedding.

Sounds simple, right? Well, not quite. Rachel soon discovers that Nick isn’t just “Nick”—he’s actually part of one of Asia’s wealthiest families. Suddenly, Rachel is swept into a world of unimaginable luxury, where the designer gowns are endless, but so are the expectations and silent judgments.

Between dazzling parties, fairy-tale weddings, and family politics, Rachel has to navigate love, tradition, and her own self-worth. 💍✨

Food & Singapore Vibes 🍜:

✨The dumpling-making scene: more than just food prep, it’s a cultural exchange showing how traditions and stories are passed down through recipes.
The banquet spreads: every scene felt like a celebration of flavor and community, even when layered with drama.

I have to talk about the food, because Crazy Rich Asians doesn’t just show Singapore’s wealth; it shows its flavor.

✨The hawker market scene: smoky satay skewers, spicy laksa, and the kind of chili crab that makes you want extra napkins.

And then, of course, there’s Singapore itself. The Marina Bay skyline, lush gardens, and bustling streets created a setting that was as immersive as it was breathtaking.

Characters & Romance 💕:

Rachel and Nick’s love story is sweet, but what really pulls you in is the push-and-pull between love and duty. Rachel is modern, grounded, and strong. Nick, while charming, is torn between his family’s expectations and the woman he loves.

And then there’s Eleanor (Nick’s mother), a character who embodies tradition, pride, and quiet strength. Every scene with her added depth to the story.

Romantic moments? ✔️
Family drama? ✔️
Emotional punch? Double ✔️

What I Loved ✨:

  • The food scenes: They were delicious, colorful, and authentic. I wanted to book a flight to Singapore right after watching.

  • The visuals: From fairy-tale weddings to city skylines, the film was a feast for the eyes.

  • The cultural depth: It wasn’t just rom-com fluff; it tackled tradition, family honor, and identity.

  • Rachel’s journey: Watching her stand tall and stay true to herself was inspiring.

Little Setbacks 🌸:

As much as I adored the lavish visuals, there were moments when the extravagance felt overwhelming. And though the main story shone, a few side characters were left in the shadows, missing a chance to add more heart.

Final Thoughts & Recommendation 🌸:

Crazy Rich Asians isn’t just a love story it’s a feast of culture, food, and family complexities wrapped in romance.

If you enjoy:
✨ Rom-coms with emotional depth
✨ Stories rich in culture and tradition
✨ Foodie moments that make you hungry
✨ Glamorous backdrops and family intrigue

…this movie is absolutely worth your time. And if you loved it, don’t forget—it’s based on Kevin Kwan’s novel, and the book continues with sequels that expand the world even more.

By the end, I wasn’t just cheering for Rachel and Nick, I was craving dumplings, dreaming of Singapore’s hawker stalls, and reflecting on how love stories are never just about two people, but about the families, traditions, and histories we carry.

Streaming now on Netflix, go grab some dumplings and watch it tonight!

The Hundred-Foot Journey by Richard C. Morais– From Spices to Michelin Stars 🍛🥖✨

Welcome to Serene Reads & Dramatic Escapes by Moushmi.💛

Hey everyone! Today’s book is a little different from the swoony romances I usually share, but oh my, it’s just as delicious. I’m diving into The Hundred-Foot Journey by Richard C. Morais — a story that blends food, family, rivalry, and dreams into something truly heartwarming. 🍛🥖✨

This one isn’t just about eating; it’s about how food shapes identity, bridges cultures, and transforms lives.

What’s the Story?

We follow Hassan Haji, a young boy from Mumbai, whose life is flavored by the aromas of his family’s kitchen. After tragedy strikes, his family moves from India to Europe, eventually opening an Indian restaurant in a quaint French village.

Here’s where things heat up: right across the street is the legendary French chef Madame Mallory, who’s not thrilled to have spicy curries competing with her elegant French cuisine. What begins as a fiery rivalry slowly evolves into mentorship, pushing Hassan toward a culinary journey that eventually takes him to Paris, and yes, to the world of Michelin stars 🌟.

Food as the Heartbeat of the Story:

Honestly, the dishes in this book made me stop and daydream. Some that stood out:

🍲Biryani & curries – rich, spiced, and comforting, representing Hassan’s roots in Mumbai.
🥘Tandoori delights & kebabs – sizzling, aromatic, and full of family warmth.
🦆Foie gras & truffles – Madame Mallory’s refined French plates that ooze tradition and precision.
🍮Soufflés & sauces – the kind of delicate artistry Hassan learns to master in France.

What I loved is how the novel doesn’t just describe food — it shows how every dish carries memory, identity, and emotion. The clash between bold Indian spices and disciplined French flavors felt like a conversation happening through the plate.

Setting the Table: From Mumbai Streets to French Villages:

The backdrop is as mouthwatering as the food. From the noisy, colorful markets of Mumbai to the serene, cobbled streets of Lumière (the French village), and later the bustling sophistication of Paris kitchens, each setting feels alive.

It’s not just scenery—it’s the rhythm of two cultures colliding and then blending, like spice mixing into a sauce.

Characters That Left an Impression:

Hassan Haji—passionate, curious, and determined, growing from home kitchens to the heights of French gastronomy.

The Haji family—loving, chaotic, and inspiring; they remind us that food is at the heart of family life.

Madame Mallory—initially strict and distant, but ultimately a mentor who sees Hassan’s genius. Their evolving relationship was one of my favorite arcs in the story.

What Stood Out for Me:

Food as identity, the way cuisine carried Hassan’s heritage while pushing him to evolve. The cultural blend – Indian warmth vs French refinement, clashing but eventually harmonizing. The emotional beats—grief, ambition, rivalry, mentorship, and belonging all tied back to food.

A Few Quibbles:

Nothing’s perfect, right? For me:

  • Some descriptions stretched a little long in places (I wanted a fork, not a textbook 🤭).

  • Pacing slowed down once Hassan reached Paris—but the payoff was worth it.

Final Thoughts & Who Should Read This:

If you’re someone who loves:

🍛Food writing that makes you hungry
🥖Stories about culture and belonging
🍷Characters growing through rivalry and mentorship
A blend of heart, flavor, and ambition

…then The Hundred-Foot Journey is a must-read. It’s more than a foodie novel; it’s about how every meal can be a journey and every kitchen a bridge between worlds.

💌Have you read this book or watched the movie adaptation? Now I can’t wait to watch the movie adaptation to see how their journey unfolds on screen!

Simmer Down by Sarah Smith – A Foodie Romance That Will Make You Hungry and Swoon!

Hey everyone! Welcome back to Serene Reads & Dramatic Escapes by Moushmi.

Today, I’m super excited to talk about Simmer Down by Sarah Smith, a book that literally made me want to grab a fork while reading.🍴😄

If you love foodie romances, tropical vibes💛, and swoony tension, this one’s going to be right up your alley! Honestly, this book is a perfect mix of fun, food, and romance, and I couldn’t put it down.

Summary of the Book:

So here’s the gist: the story follows Nikki DiMarco, who runs her Filipino food truck, Tiva’s Filipina Kusina, in the sunny, tropical paradise of Maui. Sounds dreamy, right?🌴

Then comes Callum James, another food truck owner (with British roots), and well… sparks fly. There’s rivalry, some miscommunication, tension, and, of course, a slow-burning romance.

The food truck festival is a big part of the story. Imagine colorful trucks, amazing dishes, and that Maui energy everywhere. It’s a fun and vibrant backdrop where the characters’ interactions feel real and engaging.

Food & Maui Vibes:

Okay, let’s talk FOOD, because honestly, this book had me drooling nonstop. 😍

Some of the dishes that made me go “YUM” while reading:

  • Chicken Adobo – tender, savory, tangy perfection. I could almost smell it cooking in Nikki’s food truck.

  • Lumpia – crispy Filipino spring rolls, the perfect snack with a crunchy bite.

  • Pancit – the noodles that symbolize celebrations and good vibes; I wanted some immediately!

  • Fusion dishes at the food truck festival include tacos, sandwiches, and a few secret recipes that the book teases.

The food truck festival scenes are so vibrant and lively. I could imagine the crowd, the aroma of all the different cuisines, and the competitive, yet playful, energy between Nikki and Callum.

And then there’s the Maui setting: beaches, sun, local markets, and the laid-back island life. The author paints it so vividly that I felt like I was right there alongside Nikki and Callum, tasting every dish and enjoying the scenery. 🌊☀️

Characters & Romance:

Nikki and Callum are both charming, funny, and flawed, which makes them feel real. Their banter and tension kept me hooked from the first few chapters.

  • Funny moments? Definitely ✔️

  • Swoon-worthy romance? Absolutely ✔️

  • Emotional beats? You bet ✔️

Yes, there’s a little miscommunication here and there, and it got slightly repetitive at times, but honestly, it just added some tension and made the romance feel more authentic and engaging.

I loved seeing how they navigate their differences, especially with food as their shared passion. It’s sweet, playful, and full of moments that make you smile and swoon.💛

What I Loved:

Here’s why I absolutely recommend this book:

  • Foodie scenes that make you hungry – Every dish is described in detail; I could literally taste it! 🍜

  • Humor & emotional moments – The story balances laughs and heartfelt moments beautifully.

  • Maui vibes – The tropical setting makes it immersive and adds a dreamy backdrop to the romance.

  • Rivalry + romance – The push-and-pull between Nikki and Callum is so engaging; I couldn’t wait to see how it resolves.

Minor Gripes:

Of course, nothing’s perfect:

  • The miscommunication between the characters repeats a few times.

  • Some pacing moments felt a little slow.

But honestly, these are minor issues compared to how much I enjoyed the story overall. The book’s charm, humor, and foodie vibes completely won me over.

Final Thoughts & Recommendation:

If you love:

  • Foodie-inspired romances 🍴

  • Tropical, beachy settings 🌴

  • Characters with charm, tension, and humor 💛

…then Simmer Down is definitely a book you should add to your TBR. It’s fun, immersive, and absolutely mouthwatering. I promise, you’ll finish it and immediately crave some Filipino food! 😋

Rewatching 13 Going on 30: Why It Hits Different as an Adult (Lessons on Love, Friendship, and Growing Up)

Welcome back to Serene Reads & Dramatic Escapes by Moushmi.

The little corner of the internet where I talk about stories that stay with you whether they’re told on a page or on a screen.

Today’s story isn’t a new release or a trending drama. It’s a movie I’ve loved for years, one that somehow feels even better every time I watch it—13. Going on 30. It’s sweet, it’s funny, and it’s got just enough magic to make you believe in “30, flirty, and thriving.” But this time, rewatching it, I saw something more…

A Whirlwind Leap into Adulthood:

On her 13th birthday, Jenna Rink wishes to skip the awkward teenage years and jump straight into adulthood. The next morning, she wakes up… in a stunning Manhattan apartment, 17 years older, living the dream life she always wanted. But as she dives deeper into her glamorous 30-year-old world, Jenna starts uncovering secrets about the person she’s become and realizing that somewhere along the way, she may have lost what truly mattered.

Some movies just have that magic, the kind that makes you smile before the opening credits even finish. For me, 13 Going on 30 is one of those. It’s sparkly, it’s funny, it’s full of heart… and somehow, it feels even better every time I watch it.

When I first saw it, I related more to Jenna at 13, full of big dreams, curious about the future, and impatient to grow up. But rewatching it now, I found myself connecting with the story in a new way. It’s not just a sweet rom-com; it’s a gentle reminder of the things that truly make life good.

The friendships you treasure.
The moments that make you laugh until you can’t breathe.
The courage to stay true to yourself, even when it’s not the easiest choice.

Yes, the “Thriller” dance is still iconic, and yes, Mark Ruffalo still has my heart. But between the fun scenes, the movie whispers something simple and beautiful: happiness isn’t about having it all figured out. It’s about the people you love, the moments you collect, and the joy you allow yourself to feel along the way.

If I could send a little note to my younger self after this rewatch, it would say, "Life will surprise you in the best ways—let it."

Because maybe “30, flirty, and thriving” isn’t just a phrase from a movie… maybe it’s a reminder to live with a little more sparkle, no matter where you are in life. ✨

13 Going on 30 (2004), directed by Gary Winick and starring Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo, is a romantic comedy that blends humor, heart, and just a sprinkle of magic.

Where to Watch 13 Going on 30

Where can you stream or rent this feel-good classic right now? Here’s the latest availability:

  • Netflix (India): 13 Going on 30 isn’t available on Netflix in India at the moment.

  • Apple TV/iTunes: You can purchase it for approximately ₹299 or rent it for around ₹129.

  • Prime Video (India): Available to purchase or rent (typically ₹299 to buy, ₹99–₹199 to rent)

The Right Move By Liz Tomforde: A Slow Burn Romance That Steals Your Heart

Welcome to Serene Reads & Dramatic Escapes by Moushmi!

Hey there! I’m Moushmi. This is my little space on the internet where I talk about books that feel like soft escapes or dramatic whirlwinds—sometimes both at once. If you enjoy stories that blend humor with heart (and occasionally make you crave noodles mid-chapter), you’ll feel right at home here.

 Book Link to buy

Kindle

Blog Overview:

My page is all about exploring stories that make you feel whether that’s heart-fluttering romance, soul-soothing comfort reads, or the kind of emotional journeys that stick with you long after you turn the last page. Today we’re heading back to the Windy City series with The Right Move by Liz Tomforde and honestly, I loved it even more than book one. This is a story that blends roommates-to-lovers, slow burn romance, and off-the-charts chemistry in a way that kept me glued to the pages.

Summary of the Book:

Indy (Indiana, Blue, Baby) is moving on from a painful breakup after discovering her boyfriend of six years cheated on her. With her guard up and her heart bruised, the last thing she expects is to move in with Ryan Shay a star basketball player with his own emotional scars.

What starts as a roommate arrangement quickly builds into an undeniable bond. Ryan shows his love through quiet acts of care, while Indy learns to slowly let him in. Their journey is filled with banter, vulnerability, and eventually… a lot of heat.

Review:

Some books just make you smile without even realizing it. The Right Move was one of those for me. I went in expecting a fun romance, but Ryan Shay and Indy completely stole my heart and honestly, I think I loved this even more than the first book in the Windy City series.

From the moment they became roommates, you could feel this quiet pull between them. Not the loud, dramatic kind — more like an invisible thread that kept tugging them closer. Their connection isn’t just about attraction (though, trust me, there’s plenty of that). It’s in the way Ryan notices the little things about Indy, how he’s there without needing to make a big show of it.

Ryan’s not perfect he’s carrying his own scars — but the way he shows up for Indy feels real. And Indy? After having her trust broken in a six-year relationship, she’s understandably guarded. Watching her start to lower those walls and let him in was such a soft, satisfying part of the story.

Now, about the spice… Liz Tomforde takes her time with these two, so when things finally heat up, it’s really worth the wait. It’s that perfect balance of slow burn and high heat enough to make you grin and maybe blush a little.

If I’m being honest, the last part of the book dragged a tiny bit for me, but I didn’t mind because the emotional payoff hit all the right notes. The way they handled their fears, their pasts, and their love for each other just felt… right.

And that epilogue? Pure happiness. I closed the book feeling like I’d just spent time with friends I didn’t want to say goodbye to.

Quote from the book:

“His quiet love. It’s always the loudest.”
