Mile High by Liz Tomforde – The Book That Took Over My Brain (and Heart)🏒✈️

Welcome to Serene Reads & Dramatic Escapes by Moushmi!

Hey there! I’m Moushmi. This is my little space on the internet where I talk about books that feel like soft escapes or dramatic whirlwinds—sometimes both at once. If you enjoy stories that blend humor with heart (and occasionally make you crave noodles mid-chapter), you’ll feel right at home here.

✈️ Ready for takeoff? Grab your copy here!

Blog Overview:

Here, we go beyond just "Did I like it?" This space is for books that make you feel, scream internally, and reread scenes like you're watching your favorite K-drama. And Mile High? She delivered. I gush about books that feel like a full-blown experience. You know this book is the kind. You pick it up thinking “cute sports romance,” and before you know it, you're obsessed, emotionally invested, and wondering how grilled cheese can be romantic.

Summary of the Book:

Stevie Shay, our headstrong flight attendant, meets Zanders, the NHL's golden boy with an ego the size of a private jet. What starts as mutual annoyance soon turns into sizzling tension, emotional vulnerability, and a love story that unfolds mid-air and on ice. It's not just about romance—it's about trust, healing, and falling for someone who sees past the walls you've built.

Review:

Okay… where do I even start?!
Mile High completely took me by surprise—in the BEST way possible. I thought I was walking into a fun little sports romance, but what I got? A full-blown obsession. The moment I finished the last page, I wanted to flip right back to page one and start over. THAT kind of obsession.

Let’s talk Stevie she’s that girl. Sharp. Grounded. Zero tolerance for nonsense (especially from a cocky hockey player like Zanders 🙃). She felt so real, like someone you’d want in your corner. I was rooting for her like she was my best friend.

And then there’s Zanders. Whew. I was not ready. He comes off as your classic swagger-filled athlete, but then BAM—you hit the soft side, the emotional layers, the protectiveness. He's the definition of a walking contradiction in the best way. Hot and emotionally available? Yes, please.

Now, their chemistry?
✨ OFF. THE. CHARTS. ✨
We’re talking slow-burn tension that makes your heart ache, playful banter that makes you grin, and the kind of spicy scenes that make you want to text your book bestie at 2am. Liz Tomforde nailed it. The emotional vulnerability tucked between the heat? Actual magic. I was out here giggling, blushing, and even getting teary-eyed over a hockey player and a flight attendant.

Also, the setting? Chef’s kiss. The aviation + sports world crossover was so fresh. And the grilled cheese scene? ICONIC. 🍞🧀

Would I recommend it?
If you love slow burn, found family, sports romance, and “touch her and die” energy?
ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY.

I’m officially a Liz Tomforde girlie, and yes—I immediately dove into The Right Move after this. No regrets.

This book had everything:
💘 Tension that builds so well
🔥 Spice that doesn’t overpower but adds
💬 Banter you’ll want to screenshot
💔 Real emotional depth
📚 Side characters you’ll want full novels for

About the Author:

Liz Tomforde writes romance that simmers with tension and dives deep into emotion. Her Windy City series is for anyone who loves character-driven stories with athletes who fall hard and women who hold their own. Her storytelling blends heat with heart, and after Mile High, I am officially reading everything she writes.

Personal Reflection:

One quote that stayed with me long after I finished the book was:

“You don’t have to love your body every single day. That’s unrealistic to expect, but I’ll be here loving it for the days you can’t.”

As someone who has struggled with body insecurities, this line felt deeply comforting. It reminded me that it’s okay to have days when I don’t feel my best, and that love doesn’t disappear just because I’m not feeling confident. Sometimes, we just need one person—real or fictional—to hold that safe space for us. This quote captured the kind of quiet, unwavering support we all deserve, and that made the book feel even more personal to me.

My Thoughts on The Stopover by T.L. Swan.

Welcome to Serene Reads & Dramatic Escapes by Moushmi

Check it out on Amazon

Blog Overview:

Here, I share honest, spoiler-free reviews, highlight standout moments or themes (such as food, relationships, or career journeys), and provide drama or movie recommendations that match the book’s vibe. So today I’m talking about The Stopover by T.L. Swan — not something I picked from my TBR honestly, but I was in the mood for some billionaire romance chaos, and this came up. I’ve heard a lot about the Miles High series, so I thought, why not start here?

💬 Let’s Talk About It

Okay, so The Stopover starts off pretty interesting two strangers, Emily and Jameson, meet on a flight, have this intense connection during a stopover, and then… life moves on. Until it doesn’t.

They cross paths again, and from there, it turns into a rollercoaster of arguments, misunderstandings, chemistry, and a lot of back-and-forth. Like seriously, they break up and come back so many times, I lost count. It got tiring after a point.

I liked Emily—she has her moments where she stands her ground. Jameson? Hmm, very intense, very “alpha.” But honestly, they just couldn't decide what they wanted from each other. And after a while, all that push and pull felt a little repetitive.

Also, and I have to mention this, I 100% thought this book would give some actual mile-high fun (based on the title 🙃). Turns out… I misunderstood the whole Miles High Club concept. Not one scene on the plane. Not one! Missed opportunity, right?

Now the ending… It felt rushed. After what happened, I really expected Emily to take her time. Her forgiving Jameson so quickly didn’t sit right with me. It felt too neat, too fast, and honestly? She deserved more than that.

The book does have its moments, especially their banter. That was the highlight for me. Their snarky conversations, little jabs, and sarcasm—it actually kept things fun in between all the drama.

📖 A Line I Liked

“You are my weakness, yet my greatest strength.”                                              Pretty classic, but it stuck with me in the middle of all the chaos.

📝 Final Thoughts

Would I recommend it? Hmm… you can probably skip it unless you’re in the mood for a slightly chaotic billionaire romance with plenty of tension and some heat. It’s not one of those emotionally gripping stories — more of a back-and-forth ride with moments that land, and others that don’t.

About the Author

T.L. Swan writes steamy contemporary romances with confident, over-the-top male leads and plenty of drama. The Stopover is book one in the Miles High Club series—and while this one didn’t blow me away, it might work for you if you're into possessive CEOs and fiery dialogue.

Books That Made Me Hungry: A Literary Feast of Food, Feels & Fiction.

Welcome back to Serene Reads & Dramatic Escapes by Moushmi.

Today’s post is dedicated to something we all secretly (or loudly) love—food in books. These stories didn’t just feed my heart; they made me crave everything from dorayaki to gelato to desi comfort food.📚🍛🍨

Okay, so is it just me, or do some books really know how to make you hungry? Like you’re reading a scene and suddenly you’re craving pasta, hot chocolate, or that oddly specific dessert the characters are eating? I’ve honestly stopped mid-read to snack more times than I can count.

In today’s blog, I’m sharing some books that didn’t just feed my soul but made me want to raid my kitchen. Let’s dive into this yummy list, shall we?

🍽️ Books That Made Me Hungry:

  1. Sweet Bean Paste by Durian Sukegawa
A quiet, heartwarming story filled with gentle food moments — especially the way dorayaki is made, slowly and patiently. The red bean paste feels like a symbol of everything unspoken, everything tender. It’s not just a story about food, but about connection, shame, and finding joy in small routines.
🍵 “There’s a story in every bean.” If you want something poetic and warm, this one is a must.
Book link : Sweet Bean Paste

  2. Love & Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch
Pizza, gelato, cobbled streets, and love in the air — Italy is the real flavor here. Every scene felt like a postcard and a food diary, and the gelato descriptions? Irresistible. It’s light, romantic, and perfect for anyone who dreams of travel and sweet cravings.
🇮🇹🍕 “Eating gelato is a love language.” If you love YA with wanderlust and whipped cream, add this to your list.
Craving a good foodie romance? Love & Gelato is one click away here.

  3. Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
The Italy part? A full-on pasta and pizza party. Food becomes her freedom, her way of reconnecting with joy, and you can taste the happiness in every bite she describes. It's one of those books where indulgence becomes a form of healing.
🍝 “I'm having a relationship with this pizza.” Read this if you’ve ever wanted to run away, eat well, and come back to yourself.                                                                   “You can grab your copy of Eat, Pray, Love Here.”

  4. The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston
Food here isn't just food—it's comfort, memory, and emotional intimacy. Clementine cooks like she’s trying to say the things she can’t put into words, and every meal she prepares feels like a quiet act of love. The magical time-slip twist adds a layer of longing that’s both beautiful and bittersweet.
🍲 “Sometimes the best meals are the ones cooked for someone else.” For fans of cozy romance with depth and warmth, this book is a hug in disguise.                              “If The Seven Year Slip sounds like your thing, it’s available on Amazon.”

  5. Luv Shuv in New York by N.M. Patel
Desi food, big dreams, and messy love in NYC, this one’s as tasty emotionally as it is culturally rich. Akira’s journey, peppered with nostalgia, home-cooked memories, and immigrant dreams, makes every cultural bite feel personal. The way Patel captures love, identity, and food culture together is deeply moving and warming.
🌆 “It’s not just about falling in love but finding yourself in a world that tells you who you should be.” This quote is from a heartfelt reader review, and it perfectly captures the book’s overall mood.                                                                                       Get the book: Here

  6. Resort to Romance by Kacey Sophia
Set in a snowy Austrian resort, this story blends cozy comfort food and romance with cultural warmth. Alisha and Felix’s slow-burn journey feels like a snowy day wrapped in hot cocoa—soft, healing, and full of warmth. The descriptions of chalet dinners and fireside chats brought the food and the heart home for me.
⛷️ “Be brave enough to take the first step.” This line, spoken by Felix, echoes his emotional growth and healing—and it's directly from the book.

📝 Quote from the Post:

“Some books just get it—food is more than flavor. It’s love, memory, and a warm hug on a rainy day.”

💬 Review:

Each of these books made me pause and think, “Wait… do I have snacks?” But deeper than that, they made me feel seen. Whether it's red bean paste made with care or pizza eaten with joy, these food moments added softness and meaning to the story—and to my reading life. If you love food and fiction, this reading list will warm you inside out.

✍️ About the Authors:

From Durian Sukegawa’s quiet grace to Ashley Poston’s romantic magic and N.M. Patel’s cultural charm, these authors make food feel like emotion on a plate. They don’t just write about meals—they write about moments, love, and all the unspoken things food helps us say.

🍴Final Bite:

Books that stir up your appetite aren't just about flavors—they're about memories, comfort, and that deep sense of home. If you’ve ever paused mid-page to look up a recipe or craved a dish you've never tasted, then you know exactly what I mean.                                                   Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to make myself a plate of something sweet… or maybe spicy.

Have a favorite foodie book? Drop it in the comments or DM me—I’m always hungry for the next delicious read! 📖✨

Cooking, Conversations & Calm Waters – Why Fresh Off the Sea S2 Felt Like a Hug

Welcome back to Serene Reads & Dramatic Escapes by Moushmi!

So... I just finished watching Fresh Off the Sea Season 2, and I had to come here and talk about it. If you thought Season 1 was beautiful and breezy, Season 2 is like coming back to the same beach years later—familiar, yet full of new emotions.

Today’s escape is not into a scripted story or a fictional world, but into the heartwarming reality of a Korean variety show that truly feels like a comforting hug—Fresh Off the Sea (Season 2).

💭Why Season 2 Hit Me Harder:

While Season 1 was charming in its own right, Season 2 hit differently—with stronger chemistry among the cast, more comforting meals, deeper conversations, and an even calmer pace that felt like a breath of fresh, salty air. Watching this felt like being on a peaceful vacation with people who laugh easily, cook with love, and find joy in the little things.

If you're someone who enjoys slice-of-life storytelling, coastal settings, food made with soul, and a pace that soothes the soul, this season will feel like home.

My Review—A show that healed me through food, friendships & feelings:

I honestly didn’t expect to fall this hard for a reality show, but Fresh Off the Sea Season 2 really hit different.
It felt like being part of a quiet, cozy dinner party that stretched over days—filled with heartfelt conversations, unspoken bonds, and SO MUCH good food. 🍲🍚

What stood out the most?

  • Every meal was an experience, from fresh-caught seafood to the tiniest side dishes (I was counting banchan at some point😭)

  • Two birthday celebrations that were surprisingly emotional. They weren’t over-the-top, but you could feel how deeply the cast had started to care for one another.

  • And the way they took care of each other through cooking, making sure everyone ate, plating food with love, and offering hot soup after a long day. It was soft. It was healing. It was real.

There was no unnecessary drama, just genuine people connecting slowly and organically.
If you’re a fan of slow mornings, shared meals, and people learning to open up, you’ll feel right at home watching this.

🍜 The Food Scenes Deserve Their Own Show:

The way they chop veggies, plan meals together, and eat outside while talking about literally everything—I swear, it made me crave Korean seafood and ramyeon at 2am. Cooking is low-key the love language of this show.

🎧 What Made Season 2 Special:

Softer pacing—nothing is rushed

Deeper convos—from work burnout to past relationships

Less awkwardness—the cast warmed up much faster this time

Shared moments—especially the morning boat routines and evening reflections

This season made space for emotions without overexplaining anything—and I loved that.

Final Thoughts from a Reality Show Addict (me, lol):

If you’ve had a long day and just want something that feels like a warm sea breeze—Fresh Off the Sea Season 2 is your answer. No over-the-top edits, no intense conflicts, just soft moments and real connection.

Let me know your favorite cast member or episode. I’ve got so many thoughts I need to unpack!

Red Flags and Rishtas book by Radhika Agarwal – modern desi rom-com

Welcome to Serene Reads & Dramatic Escapes by Moushmi

Blog Overview:

Here, I share honest, spoiler-free reviews, highlight standout moments or themes (such as food, relationships, or career journeys), and provide drama or movie recommendations that match the book’s vibe. This time, we’re diving into a modern Indian rom-com with rishta chaos, career confusion, and desi Chinese cravings—all rolled into one spicy read.  Food. Rishtas. Red flags. And a whole lot of sass🌶️

My Thoughts on Red Flags and Rishtas:

Let me just say that this book was a fun read. It had me smiling through most of it (and craving desi Chinese more times than I’d like to admit).

Red Flags and Rishtas feels like a rom-com with a desi twist. The main character is navigating rishtas, dating apps, career changes, and unsolicited advice from every possible direction. What I really enjoyed was how the characters weren’t stuck in those same old templates. They had jobs you don’t usually see in Indian stories—editors, bartenders, event managers, interior designers—and it made the whole thing feel fresh and relatable.

The writing is witty, the friendships are wholesome, and the red flags? Very much present and so painfully familiar 😂

I did wish the ending wrapped up a little differently—but it still felt honest and true to the tone of the story.

One big takeaway? That it’s never too late to try something new—whether it’s changing careers, standing up for yourself, or giving love another shot (even if it comes wrapped in a momo wrapper).

Summary (Spoiler-Free, Don’t Worry):

The story follows a woman who’s navigating the modern mess of arranged marriage setups, dating apps, nosy relatives, and the occasional ex popping back in. Through it all, she’s figuring out who she is and what she really wants—with lots of food, friendship, and little rebellions along the way.

Quote That Stuck With Me:

"I’m not against arranged marriages. I’m just against bad ones."

About the Author:

Radhika Agarwal is a debut author, and I honestly love how her writing feels like a friend narrating their drama-filled weekend over brunch. There’s humor, heart, and lots of moments where you think, yup, been there. Definitely excited to read more from her in the future!

In Five Years by Rebecca Serle — A Story That Wasn’t What I Expected, But Everything I Needed

Welcome to Serene Reads & Dramatic Escapes by  Moushmi.

Today, I’m diving into a book that completely surprised me — In Five Years by Rebecca Serle. What started as what I thought would be a sweet, romantic read ended up becoming a deeply emotional exploration of love, friendship, and fate.

Blog Overview:

My blog is all about heartfelt reads, gentle narratives, and emotionally powerful stories that stay with you long after you’ve closed the book. Whether you're looking for something comforting or cathartic, you’ll find honest reviews and reflections here.

Review:

I went into In Five Years expecting a light, romantic story — something heartwarming and sweet. But halfway through, I found myself questioning everything. Was this going to be about betrayal? Was it going to be the kind of story I usually shy away from?

But as the pages turned, it became so much more than I expected. It wasn’t about cheating. It was about love — the messy, unpredictable kind — and, more than that, about the kind of friendship that shapes your life.

The emotional depth of this book caught me completely off guard. By the time I turned the last page, I was in tears. Not because the story was tragic in a conventional sense, but because it tapped into something raw and real.

The bond between the characters — especially the friendship — was extraordinary. The support, the presence, the unspoken understanding between them... it was beautifully written. The relationships in this book felt genuine, layered, and deeply human.

Yes, there were a few predictable elements, and I did see certain plot points coming. But it didn’t take away from the emotional impact at all. In fact, knowing what was coming only made some moments hit harder.

I’ll admit — I was secretly rooting for a wedding somewhere in the story (I mean, who doesn’t love a classic happy ending?), but the resolution felt right. It was real. The love, even if not romantic, was portrayed with so much tenderness that I didn’t mind the absence of a traditional fairytale ending.

This book wasn’t the story I thought I’d read. It was better — deeper, more emotional, and truly unforgettable.

Summary of the Book:

In Five Years follows Dannie Kohan, a meticulous and driven woman who has her life planned to the minute. But everything changes when she wakes up five years in the future — in a different apartment, with a different man, living a life completely unlike the one she’s working toward. When she returns to her present, shaken and confused, she tries to forget what she saw. But fate has a way of catching up with us, no matter how tightly we hold the reins.

Quote from the Book:

“You mistake love. You think it has to look a certain way. You think it has to come with a house, a ring, a husband, a child. It doesn't.”

About the Author:

Rebecca Serle is an American author known for blending magical realism with emotionally resonant storytelling. Her novels often explore themes of love, fate, and relationships with a unique perspective. She’s also written The Dinner List and One Italian Summer, both of which showcase her signature mix of heart and poignancy.

XOXO by Axie Oh – A Sweet Ride Into K-pop Romance

Welcome to Serene Reads & Dramatic Escapes by Moushmi!

Hey book lovers! If you're in the mood for a heartwarming, dramatic, and absolutely swoon-worthy love story, "XOXO" by Axie Oh might just be the book for you. Whether you're a K-pop fan or not, this book wraps you in a whirlwind romance set against the backdrop of Seoul’s star-studded world of idols. Let’s dive into it!

Review:

XOXO is everything you could want in a teen romance: dreamy, emotional, and a total K-drama in book form. It follows Jenny, a gifted cellist, who finds herself unexpectedly caught up in the K-pop scene after moving to South Korea. Her crush, Jaewoo, turns out to be a rising K-pop star, and their chemistry? Unmissable! But, as you’d expect in the world of idols, the romance isn’t all glitter and rainbows. There’s the constant tug-of-war between public personas and private lives, and the pressure to hide feelings, especially when those feelings come with paparazzi and fans to deal with.

What I loved most about this book was how it captured the magic of K-pop and the idol industry—the fierce dedication, the loyalty to fans, the passion. Axie Oh does a phenomenal job of creating a world that feels real, even if it’s packed with fame and drama. But what really made this book stand out was its emotional depth. Jenny and Jaewoo’s relationship is complex and not just about glitz and glamour; it’s about the sacrifices, the yearning, and the quiet moments that truly define love. And, of course, there's that cultural depth that makes the whole story feel like a beautiful love letter to South Korea and its vibrant culture.

That said, the ending left me wanting a little more. While it was satisfying, I wish we got a bit more closure or perhaps a glimpse into what their future might look like. But hey, as a K-drama lover, I'm just grateful for the journey these characters took me on.

A Memorable Quote:

“You are more than just a stage name. You are who you choose to be.”

This quote really stood out to me because it encapsulates the heart of Jenny’s journey. In the whirlwind of K-pop fame and expectations, she learns to define herself beyond the constraints of her public persona. It’s a powerful reminder that our identity is something we shape, not something that’s handed to us.

About the Book:

At its core, XOXO is a story about dreams, self-discovery, and the love that blooms despite the chaos surrounding it. It’s not just about being in love with a K-pop idol (although, let’s be real, who wouldn’t love that?)—it’s about finding your own path, even when the world tries to tell you who to be. Jenny’s journey of coming to terms with her own identity, her passion for music, and her feelings for Jaewoo make this book relatable to anyone who’s ever faced the challenge of balancing their personal dreams with the expectations of others.
